Owning a pet can be a very rewarding experience. There are many different kinds of pets to choose from to fit all kinds of lifestyles so it is important to think carefully before you go out to get your pet. Since different kinds of animals require different amounts of care, you need to take into consideration what you are willing to put into your pet.

Before buying a pet think about where you live. Do you have a small space or a large space? If you are considering a dog, do you have a place where they can go outside? If you don’t have an outside space you might want to consider a pet that can stay indoor such as a cat.

Do you have time to spend with your pet? If your time is limited you might want to stay away from dogs. They require a large amount of time, especially in the beginning when they need to be trained. If you have the time dogs are great pets. If you are limited you should consider a pet that can do well on its own.

There are also financial considerations when you are thinking about getting a pet. Not only do you need to spend the money to feed them and provide the everyday things they need, but there are also vet bills to think about. Regular veterinary care is very important to keeping your pet healthy. This included immunizations and preventative medicines. There is also the possibility that they might need emergency care which can be very expensive.

Once you take these things into consideration you can fin the perfect pet for you.

If you own a pet you may have heard of or even considered purchasing pet insurance. For many pet owners whether or not to spend the money on pet insurance is a difficult decision to make. The monthly premium for some plans can be quite high, so it is important to take all things into consideration.

Pet insurance, just like any other insurance policy is a gamble. You have it and you pay for it, but you hope you never need to use it. Unfortunately if you don’t have it and something happens to your pet, the expenses can be enormous. In most cases, pets can live long healthy lives without ever having any major medical expenses. Just like with medical insurance for people though, having insurance can save you huge amounts of money if something big does happen. There are many different companies that offer pet insurance, and they offer many different types of plans. You can pay a minimal amount each month that will cover just major medical expenses. If you want to pay more each month you can get a policy that will cover regular and preventative care as well. If you decide to get a policy think about which would best fit your finances.

If you decide to purchase pet insurance it could give you peace of mind. You will know that if something happens to your pet you don’t have to think about how you would pay for their care. Shop around and do your homework before choosing a policy to make sure you are getting the most for your money and the best policy for your pet.

For most dog owners there will come a time when you will travel and can not bring your four legged family member with you. There are many different kinds of boarding facilities available, and it is important to find the right environment for your pet. As you look around there are some questions you should ask before you bring your dog to stay.

Find out where they will be staying. The best way to get an idea of what the environment is like and to see where the dog will be kept is to ask for a tour. Make sure that is it clean and does not smell like dog urine or feces. If they are going to be crated make sure the cages are kept clean as well.

If you don’t like the idea of your dog being caged look in to other options. There are some kennel owners who run them out of their homes and don’t keep the dogs in cages. Check to make sure the areas where the dogs will be is kept clean as well.

Find out what kind of exercise your dog will get. Are the kept crated for most of the day? You want to make sure that they will get regular walks and exercise. Many boarding facilities also offer doggie daycare. These types of kennels can offer your dog all day play with other dogs and are a great way to keep them active while you are gone.

Bringing your own food is often better for your dog since changing their food can cause diarrhea. Find out if you can bring your own before dropping off your pet.

Many families consider their pets part of the family, so feeding the family pet healthy food should be part of the family dynamic. But how do you choose the best food for your pet to keep them healthy and active?

Here are a few tips to help you choose the food that will best suit your pet.

Read the ingredients in the food and the purchase the healthiest type of food that you can afford.

Choose a food that has the proper amount of protein for your pet. Age, activity and other factors will determine how much protein your pet will need. For instance, younger animals will need less protein than adults. Look for food choices that are labeled by age. For instance, choose one labeled puppy for your young canine companion. However, any food you choose should include protein sources such as lamb, beef or chicken. The protein should be the first ingredient on the list of ingredients.

Avoid animal byproducts such as chicken feet and bones that may be included in pet foods. Less expensive foods usually include these types of byproducts. More expensive food generally do not include byproducts. Ask your veterinarian for recommendations about higher-quality byproducts.

Check for and learn about preservatives. Almost every brand of dry pet food has preservatives. These preservatives can include artificial preservatives like BHT or ethoxyquin.

Choose whether to feed your pet dry or canned food, or even a mixture. Take into account that canned food is generally more expensive. However, both will provide your pet with a good nutritional balance, provided you have examined the ingredients.

It’s time for the family vacation and everyone is excitedly making plans. Are you one of those families who consider their furry pets a part of the family and you want to include them in your vacation plans?

Currently, there are many pet-friendly ways of travel and lodging, so there are very few reasons why you need to leave your pet at home. All you need to do is follow a few simple tips to make sure you have the proper accommodations and arranges to travel safely with your pet.

Check with your mode of travel — bus, plane and so on — as to their particular regulations about traveling with pets.

You will need to have a travel crate for your pet. Your pet should be able to completely stand up and turn around in this crate for maximum comfort during travel.

If you are traveling by automobile, you may want to consider a car seat that will help keep your pet safe and secure. You can also use a crate.

Check with your veterinarian before traveling. Get any necessary vaccination and health records that you may need. If you are traveling out of the country, check to make sure you have the necessary records and quarantine information for that particular country. You may also want to have your vet provide tranquilizers for your pet if this is necessary.

Do some online research for pet-friendly lodging. You may be pleasantly surprised at how many motels and hotels across the country accept pets.

When looking for a pet-friendly apartment to rent, the first thing to do is to check with the landlord regarding the regulations. Make sure to get permission for any pets that you have. Rules may include damage liability or health regulations, and some landlords do not allow pets at all.

Generally small dogs, cats, or birds are better suited in apartments for rent than other, larger, animals. However, you need to consider carefully which suits your lifestyle best.

Although some cats are perfectly happy indoors, many are still interested in the outdoors. For these cats, a ledge that is attached to the windowsill is a great idea as it allows them to see outside. Make sure that your cat has plenty of toys for exercise, like climbing structures that enable stalking, pouncing, or scratching.

Dogs also need exercise. It is best to choose apartments near walking paths or parks. This way, you can walk with your dog after he has been confined to the apartment all day.

Apartment living with pets has certain risks. Probably the biggest danger is the possibility of your pet falling from the balcony or out of a window. For this reason, apartments on the ground floor are safer.

Apartments without carpeting are best for pet-friendly living because carpets retain pet smells. Non-carpeted flooring is also easier to clean, should there be an accident.

Help your pet to adjust to a new home by taking a few days off when you move in. Your pet may be nervous in new surroundings and your presence will be comforting.

Most dog people want to keep their canine companion healthy and happy. We know that there is so much information out there about keeping our dogs healthy and we all try to keep up with that information. Whether you are a long-time dog person or a first-timer, here are a few tips that you can use to keep your furry friend healthy and happy for years to come.

Even though it seems logical to cut your dog’s hair in the summer to keep him comfortable, this may not be a good thing. In actuality, a dog’s fur will actually act as a coolant will help keep him cool during the hot weather. Additionally, if you cut his fur off, you run the risk of having him endure sunburn, which is a difficult condition to relieve or cure.

If you have a full-grown dog that weighs less than 20 pounds, he will need more calories than a larger dog. Choose a pet food specially designed for smaller canines to ensure that he is receiving the proper calorie intake. You can ask your veterinarian for recommendations.

If you find that your dog is becoming a picky eater, it may be due to the fact that you are changing his food too often. When you find a food that Fido enjoys, stick with it unless your dog’s vet makes a different recommendation for medical or health reasons.

Keep your dog away from your garden. Many plants such as spinach and tomatoes can be harmful to your pet.

These days, food for just about any animal is available at a store. It’ll be at a pet store, a farm co-op, a grocer, or even a manufacturer with a retail outlet.

Remember the scandal with pet food not too long ago in which the manufacturers added something that was harmful to dogs? Millions of dollars were lost or spent in trying to right the situation, while a number of dogs actually died. Class action attorneys in Los Angeles and other firms like them had a heyday answering questions about claims against dog food companies.

One good way to ensure this never happens is to make your dog’s food at home. There are many good recipes online from people who feed their dogs no commercial foods whatsoever. They make meals that are nutritious for dogs, not just filling.

Find Recipes Online

Gluten-free recipes, grain-free recipes, and even weight-loss recipes can be found online, but make sure the recipe isn’t promoting homemade fillers. Nothing but meat, vegetables, and rice should be in them.

Here’s a good recipe, and you can change out the veggies for variety.

You will need the following:

1 lb. ground meat (any kind)

A small package of frozen veggies (NOT corn!)

1 cup of uncooked rice, cooked

Brown the meat in a fry pan.

While the meat is frying, cook the rice.

When the meat has browned, add the veggies to get them warm.

When the rice is done, fluff with a fork.

Mix all the ingredients together.

All that’s left is to divide the food into portions appropriate for the dog’s size, and then store the rest.

Pets are present in almost all houses. There are only a few people who are not interested in having pets. The availability of pets in the house will give the person a lot of advantages. Every single person would have heard that dogs are mans best friends. This is being said in every nook and corner of the world not without reason. These animals are very helpful to humans. There are hundreds of incidents where dogs have showed exemplary courage and common sense in saving people’s lives.

Other than the dogs, there are also many other kinds of pets that are seen in the world. Some people have some common pets like cats, parrots and other birds. There are also other people who have exotic pets in their houses. In many parts of the word, only common pets are allowed and exotic animals are not allowed to be kept in captivity, mainly because of the status of the animal, if it is an endangered one.

The availability of pets in the house will give a lot of relaxation to the person who is having them. This is because people are so used to running to their work in the morning and then returning from work just having enough time to sleep. There is no time to think of the finer aspects of life. This can lead to a lot of health problems. The stressful life can cause weight gain and may even lead to depression or heart disease. The presence of pet animals in the house will help to reduce the stress of the person. When there is reduction in the stress, the person becomes much healthier and there will be reduced chances of being affected by diseases such as heart attacks, depression and anxiety.

Since there are many health benefits and advantages of having pets in the house, it is very important that all people should have some pet or other. Some pets need only minimal maintenance. One of this is the presence of aquariums in the house that need only feeding and once a week water change.

There are many cats that vomit very often. Though the cats are seen to vomit on a regular basis, there are times when it can become serious and can even be fatal for the cat. There are many causes for the pet cats to vomit. The household where the cat lives may be a potential danger zone for the cat. A cat in the wild may not encounter anything dangerous for it. On the other hand, a cat in the home can try to taste various things in the house that can become potential toxins. When the cat has ingested these things that are not to be consumed, they can start vomiting to expel the things.

Other than the things that the cat eats, there are some more reasons for the cats to vomit. One reason for the cats to vomit is the presence of chronic failure of the kidneys. When the cats have kidney failure, it causes them to vomit. This on the other hand can be a very serious problem for the cat. There are many cats that can have this as a fatal problem.
The other reason for cats to vomit is the presence of a viral infection in them. There are different kinds of viruses that can affect a cat. The most common one that will cause vomiting in the cat is the parovirus. This can make a cat to become terribly sick.

The other reason for the cats to vomit is that the cat may have eaten some plant. There are many instances where cats have been seen to eat some grass or plants and then vomit. This may be done wantonly to remove something that is causing stomach irritation.

If you are the proud owner of a cat, then you must also have had many instances where you have had your heart in your mouth because of the major falls that you have seen your cat to have. The cats are naturally agile animals and they are usually seen jumping from various heights. The tremendous thing about the cats jumping is that they rarely injure themselves. So, should a person be worried at all if a cat falls?

This question is hard to answer. This is because the pets that are kept in houses are not as naturally agile as the other cats that are seen in the wild. When these cats that are not used to jumping from a height falls or jumps because of the natural instinct, then there are chances of it injuring itself.

There are some instances where the cat may never injure itself because of the fall. This is because of some natural mechanisms that are present in the cat that will prevent the animal from injuring itself. Some facts that help in the advantage of the cat not injuring itself in the fall are the fur that it has got. The cats also have very light bones, so their bodies are not heavy. Almost all the cats fall on their feet and this prevents them from injuring themselves because they are soft on their feet. Any cat that is thrown or falling in any position will right itself and then fall or land on its feet. This reduces the impact. Other than this, the cat also has a body that changes shape and becomes like a parachute, and this too prevents injuries in a fall.

If a person is used to having a pet cat, then he or she must have commonly seen the cat vomit hair balls. There are many reasons for the cat to throw up the hair balls. The main reason for the cats to throw up hair balls is that they eat small bits of hair each time they clean themselves. Cats are one group of animals that like to keep licking on their fur to keep themselves clean. When the cat licks itself each time, it will cause the cat to swallow some amounts of hair. This hair that is swallowed by the cat will form a ball of hair in the stomach.

Once a hair ball has formed in the cat, the cat will not eat properly. Then the cat will be seen to start eating grass. Some may wonder why the cats eat grass when it has a hair ball. This may be to increase the fiber content in the stomach so that the hair ball is eliminated in a easy process. This is a common occurrence in any cat, but when we have cats in the house, it seems to be disgusting that the cat will swallow hair and then vomit it out as a hair ball.

There are some methods that can be used to prevent the cats from swallowing hair. The cats should be groomed well and the excessive hair needs to be brushed off as this will prevent any hair from getting into the mouth of the cat. Grooming cats need to be done daily to prevent hair ball formation. Other than this, the cats should also be fed proper cat food to prevent hair balls.

Pets are of different kinds. The common pets that people have in their house are dogs and cats. Both these animals are very similar in their activities to humans. Some of the diseases that these pets get are also similar to those that are contracted by humans. One of the most common things that is seen in a pet is that it may sneeze. Any person who sees the animal sneezing may think that there is something wring with the pet. This may be true in some cases, but most of the time, there may be nothing wrong with the pet.

If the pet has been sent to a place where it was kept along with many other pets, then it could have had contracted an infection from that place. There are many pets that are seen all over the world that have been placed in animal shelters. Though animal shelters are helpful for those who have to leave the town for a business, these shelters can also cause an infection in the pets. There are many viral infections that can affect the pets.

There are some instances when the sneezing can be caused by an irritant in the nose of the pet. Dogs seem to sneeze more often than cats. This could probably be because the dogs are not as clean as cats. Though cats do sneeze, it is not very common. Allergens like pollen and dust can even cause animals to sneeze. There are times when foreign particles may enter the nose of the cats or dogs and this too may cause the pets to start sneezing till the foreign particle has left the nose of the animal. If the pets are not stopping the sneezing and there are other problems like running nose and any infection, then the dog needs some kind of treatment to prevent further worsening of the condition.

If you like to travel, you might want to think about taking your pet with you. It’s a little more difficult to travel with cats, but if you have a dog, you can certainly bring it along with a little advance planning. One of the best places to go if you want great weather and a lot of dog-friendly activities is Canada. There are parks and rivers that the two of you can explore together, and there’s plenty of scenery to take in. You’ll have a choice of whether you want to camp, or whether you’d like to find hotels that accept dogs so you’ll have a more comfortable place to stay. It’s completely up to you, so consider what you’ll like the best and make your choice accordingly.

Also, keep in mind that you can get plenty of information about the kinds of things you might want to do with your dog from Canada 411. You don’t have to be stuck looking for fun things to do when you arrive in Canada that way, and you can plan the trip before you even leave your home. That’s often the easiest and most enjoyable way to travel with your dog, since you don’t want to be in an unfamiliar place and having trouble finding a place to stay that will accept your four-legged companion.

It’s also important to make sure that you know where any emergency and/or local vets are to be found, and where you can find a pet store that offers supplies you might need. If you have a dog with a medical condition, or one that is only supposed to eat a specific type of food, it’s a good idea to make sure that you have access to the things you’ll need in a new place, even if you’re not going to be there that long. That can help you to keep your dog healthy and happy during your vacation.

Pets are usually healthy if they are taken care of properly by their masters. There are times when the pets may not be very healthy. This is because of the fact that the pets may have had something to eat that was not intended for them. There are several reasons for pets to vomit. As far as the cats are concerned, there are some common reasons for them to vomit. The main reason though is the presence of hair balls inside them.

Some pets can eat grass. This is mainly to emit the hair ball that has gone inside it. The hair balls are the hair that was swallowed by the cat when it had been grooming itself. Though the presence of hair balls in the stomach of the cat is the main reason for the cat to vomit, this is not the only reason. There are many other causes too.

When pets eat the medications that are meant for the humans, this can also cause the cat to vomit. There are many cats that are very curious and inquisitive. This causes the cat to eat the medication that was meant for an adult. When this happens, the person has to take the cat to a veterinarian and immediate treatment given to prevent the cat from dying.

There are times when the cat may also vomit because it has had too much to eat. You should understand how much the cat can usually eat and then should not over feed the cat. Eating too much can make the cat lethargic and cause it to vomit too. This should actually act as a warning sign that the food given to the cat needs to be controlled.

When you’re ready for a new pet in your life, you need to take the time to make sure that your house is also ready for it. A lot of people just bring a cat or a dog home, and they don’t think about the way the house is set up and the kinds of things that could get damaged. Then, when something does get broken or destroyed, they get mad at the pet instead of realizing that pets are going to be curious and they’re going to get into things. Rather than deal with messes and problems after the fact, make sure that you pet proof your home before you bring a new pet into your life. It’s not that difficult to protect most things from pets, with a little common sense.

For example, you can close doors to rooms that you don’t want your new pet in. In addition, you should put breakables up on higher shelves where your pet can’t reach, or close the objects in cabinets that your pet can’t access. You can also buy plastic covers for things like pool tables and poker tables, so that your pet doesn’t damage them with claws or toenails. Pet proofing a house is a lot like baby proofing a house, in that you have to really think about what kinds of things your pet can reach and get into. Cats can jump up on things much higher than dogs, for example, so be aware of the issues with whatever type of pet you choose.

The less access your pet has to all areas of your home right at first, the better off you’ll be. Introduce your new pet to one room at a time, so it doesn’t become overwhelmed and so you can look for dangers that you might have missed when you were getting your home ready for your new pet. That way, you’ll have a better experience with your new furry friend.

If you have dogs as pets, one of the most characteristic that will be noted about them is that they pant a lot. There are some dogs that pant too much and there are some other dogs that do not pant much. So, many have wondered as to the reason for the panting of the dogs. There are three major reasons for dogs to pant and these are normal in many pets. If the pet dog pants even without the presence of these three reasons, then the dog needs to have a veterinary consultation to rule out any disease.

The main reason for dogs to pant is that they may be thirsty. The dogs are very active and it may be very rare to find any dog that is inactive. So, if the dog is active, then there may be a chance that the dog has been running for a long time and so it may be panting to get its breath. Other than this, there are many dogs that may have lost a lot of water from the body because of the heat of the sun. This can also cause the dogs to pant.
Many pets are seen to pant when they are thirsty. So, the dog can be given some water to drink as this may decrease the panting of the dog.

The other common reasons for dog to pant are the anxiety that they may have. There are some dogs that are depressed because of various reasons. If there is no one spending time with the dog, then it can become anxious. This can also lead to panting in the dog. Dogs that are excited may also pant. There are many reasons for a dog to get excited. The dog may be excited when it sees something interesting or when it sees its master. So, this may be the reason for panting.

If you are struggling with an addiction, you may convince yourself that you are only hurting yourself. You may trick yourself into thinking that nobody else is at risk or in danger as a result of your addiction or your problems with substance abuse. This is a lie, because if you own a pet the likelihood is great that your pet or pets are being affected negatively. You may not realize you are tuning out the rest of the world to focus only on your addiction. The unfortunate truth is that animals are completely incapable of actually taking care of themselves when you confine them to your household.

Animal cruelty is caused in many ways as a result of an owner having an addiction. Unclean environments, malnutrition and improper care are just some issues that can cause great harm to your pet. Every year there are countless numbers of pets that are abandoned or are killed because they are not being cared for properly by owners obsessed with various addictions. If you are suffering from a debilitating addiction, then you may not be caring for your pets as well as they deserve, and you could be causing them great harm without being aware of it.

People struggling with an addiction will more than likely choose to feed their habit rather than to feed their pets. The longer that your addiction lasts for, the more damage is going to be done to your pet to the point of no return. You could end up damaging your pet beyond repair. Because of this, it is vitally important for you to get help from a rehabilitation facility like Rehab-International.org. These treatment facilities will allow you to get the rehabilitation help and support that you need so that you can build healthy and positive habits and lifestyle changes and begin doing right by your beloved pets for once.

If you have a dog as a pet in your house, you may have noticed that the dog does not have an appetite most of the time. There are many people who think that their pet is suffering from a disease, because the pet does not eat. This causes a lot of heart ache for the owner of the pet. The truth is that there are many reasons for the dog to not have an appetite. Once you know the causes of the lack of appetite for the dog, then you will feel better.

The main reason for the dogs not to have an appetite is because of the fact that the dog may not like the smell of the food. The dogs smell their food before they start eating the food. When they smell it, they expect a specific smell. If the smell of the food puts them off, in spite of being tasty, the dogs will not eat the food. This is the common reason for lack of appetite in dogs.

The taste of the food is another reason for the lack of appetite. Even if the smell of the food is inviting for the pets, the taste too has to be good. If the taste of the food is not good, then the pet will not eat it too.

The other reason for the lack of appetite in pet dogs is that they may not have enough exercise. Just like in humans, dogs too need to have a lot of exercise for them to be hungry. Adequate exercise will also help in increased digestion in the dog. This will also help the dog to be hungrier. So, the dog has to be exercised at regular intervals each day for it to have a good appetite. This will help the dog to eat the food that has been offered to it.

For many families Halloween is a family affair. The children all dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes and the parents will take part by dressing up in their own Halloween costumes. Everyone will spend Halloween evening going door to door getting favorite Halloween treats. However, even though many families view their dog as part of the family they are left behind while everyone goes trick or treating. What if you were able to dress your dog up and bring them along? Many families are doing just that.

Dressing up your dog in a Halloween costume has become a very popular trend. There are entire websites that are devoted to listing hundreds of pet costumes. There is everything from celebrity costumes to cowboy and pirate costumes that are just perfect for your pet. These costumes are a great way to get that one family member that was always left behind to become a part of the Halloween tradition.

A great idea for those that are using pet costumes for their dog is try to incorporate your dog into the costumes. This can range from having everyone dress up as pirates to having everyone dress up as cowboys or cowgirls. With hundreds of costumes to choose from there are thousands of possibilities and ways to dress up your dog so that they can look like they are part of the family.

Don’t allow your dog to be left behind this coming Halloween and include them as part of your family’s Halloween tradition by making them a part of your child’s Halloween costume. Who knows your child just might get more candy for being creative and including their dog as a part of their Halloween costume. Just remember that even though your dog might be going trick or treating you don’t want them to eat any of the candy as chocolate and sticky candy can be deadly for dogs!

When pets run away from home, they often do so because they get lost exploring the neighborhood. Their curiosity encourages them to sneak off and learn about their surrounding environment. This is often a traumatic experience for both the family and the pet. Instead of wallowing in your sadness, though, you should take action to locate your missing cat or dog. The sooner you get moving, the more likely you are to find your pet.

Search the Neighborhood

The very first thing that you should do is organize a search party to scour your neighborhood. Get in your car and roam the streets while keeping an eye out for any sign of your missing pet. This is often all that you have to do. With any luck, you could be reunited with your pet within a few hours.

Network!

If you don’t find your missing friend by driving around the neighborhood, then you should use all of the networking tools at your disposal. Use online networking tools like Facebook and Craigslist to the get the word out. Be sure to include pictures of your missing pet to help people identify your animal. You’ll be surprised to find out how many people are willing to keep their eyes peeled for a missing pet. When the whole community gets involved, you have a much better chance of finding your friend.

Use Flyers

Don’t forget to use flyers to let other people in the community know about your missing pet. Focus on the area surrounding where he or she went missing. Ideally, your missing pet will approach someone who has seen one of your flyers. Once this happens, your pet is just a phone call away from home.

Owners and their missing pets are reunited every day. Using all of the tools available to you increases the chances that your missing friend will find his or her way back home.

Pets need a lot more care than people think. There are some pets like pet fish that may need a lot less care than many of the other animals. Any animal that is kept as pets in the house needs to be taken for a walk, unless it is a bird. This is because the normal animal in the natural environment is used to moving around. If the animal is kept in one place and there is no place for it to move around, then the animal can become very tough to handle as it grows. So, you should have enough space for the animal. This is the first and the most important factor that has to be taken care of.

The animals also have to be cleaned at regular intervals. Do animals in the wild clean themselves, you may ask. The truth is that the animals in the wild will have some methods of cleaning themselves. On the other hand, the person who is having the pet in the house will give the pet no chance to clean itself. There are also more risks of infection for an animal if the animal is kept in a confined space.

The animals can be cleaned by various methods to prevent them from suffering from diseases. A medicated shampoo will be the best method for animals that have fur on them. You should be careful that the veterinarian is consulted before using the shampoo. This is because some shampoos are right for dogs, but the same one can be fatal for cats. So, the right one has to be used to give bath and clean the animals.

The animals also need to be given food and water at the right time as this is another important aspect of the care to keep the animal healthy and alive. Any delay in feeding can even kill the animal.

Life is all about dealing with the challenges that are set before us. For many, living paycheck to paycheck is challenge enough without having to deal with other obstacles and the stresses that come along with them. When illness strikes a family, hopefully there is insurance to help alleviate the costs. When illness strikes a family pet there often isn’t insurance to help deal with the financial burden.

Pets are as much members of the family as the humans, and so when a beloved pet is struck with a serious illness or medical condition, there is no choice but to shoulder the financial burden of healing them.

Sometimes veterinarians are willing to provide services on a payment plan, but this is not always the case. In some cases people are forced to turn to their parents or other friends or family for short term loans to help them pay for the costs of treatment. In other situations, neither of these options exists and many are forced with the inevitability of having to put the animal down because they cannot afford treatment.

This, however, doesn’t need to be the case. Services like paydayone.com exist solely to help struggling people through short term financial crisis. Using a service like this is simple; fill out an online form and if approved the money will be deposited nearly right away, into your bank account. Then, you can use the funds to pay for treatment for your furry friend and not have to deal with losing them.

Paydayone.com loans are a quick and convenient way to deal with financial obstacles. Paying back the loan promptly will avoid building interest charges, and a short term loan like this can be much more economical than borrowing from the bank or using a payment plan offered by the vet. Rest easy, paydayone.com can help you avoid unpleasant decisions and your furry friend can be back at your side in no time.

Ornamental fish are those that are used in houses as pets. Though fish cannot be said to be pets, they are available in many houses where people would like to have some living organism near them that will help them to reduce the stress. In fact, more than any other animal that is kept in homes, fish are said to provide a lot of reduction in stress. There is one important reason for this. Any other animal that is available in the house will need a lot of care to be kept. This can make an already overworked person to get stressed without reason. There is a high risk of being affected by rabies infection when animals bite. Even if the person is not affected by this condition, there are other problems that can be caused because of animal bites. All these are avoided when you have fish as pets in your house

On the other hand, a person who has fish in the house will not have a lot of problems. The main advantage is that the fish need very minimal care. All that needs to be done is that the fish needs to be fed at least once in a day. Then the water needs to be cleaned in about a week’s time. When all this is done, there is little other work for the person. This makes the ornamental fish to be one of the best pets that can be kept in the house.

There is another benefit of having ornamental fish in the house. This benefit is that you can also earn money by breeding the ornamental fish, if you are interested. The ornamental fish are in high demand and there are simple methods that can be used by you to breed the fish. This makes it very easy for the person to make money using them. Even if you are not interested in making money from the fish, they are so colorful that you will love looking at them swimming peacefully in the tank, which also gives you some peace of mind and relaxes you.

If you want to have your own breeding business, you can certainly do that – but you want to make sure that you do it the right way. A lot of people just assume that they can breed animals in their home and sell them, and no one will know. They’ll just ask for cash, so they don’t need to worry about taxes. Unfortunately, it’s not legal to do that. Most places require that you have a breeders’ license, and there may be specific requirements about whether you can breed animals on your property. You also have to take into account how many animals you’re allowed to have (many towns have ordinances) and how you must set up the space for those animals.

Don’t just assume that you don’t have to worry about these issues. They will catch up with you, and it’s better to investigate them from the start so you don’t have problems later, either with the IRS or with local authorities. You will want to get permits for your breeding business, and make sure that you comply with local laws. You can deduct the cost of the permits, the original animals, the food, and any changes you have to make to your environment to accommodate your animals. These are all business expenses that can be written off on your taxes. The money that you receive from selling your animals will be claimed as money earned on your income taxes.

There are certainly businesses that don’t report all of their income and that take liberties with their expenses, but it’s never a good idea for you to do that. It can get you in serious trouble and it’s not at all worth the risk. Make sure you know the laws so you can do everything on the up and up.

There are many health problems that can be seen in human beings because of the pets. There are many diseases that can be caused by the pets in humans. There may be no direct method of transmission of these diseases, but there are many indirect methods in which a person may be affected by these diseases. It is important for the person who owns pets to try and understand the cause of these diseases so that appropriate action can be taken to prevent the disease from further spreading and also to treat the disease that has occurred in a person.

The health problems that are caused because of the pets are mainly seen in smaller children because of the reason that they are prone to suffer from various diseases due to decreased immunity. These small kids may have allergic reactions manifesting in various ways. One of the problems that can be seen is that the child may suffer from allergic skin rashes. These rashes may be on the skin on any part of the body, but it is usually in the face and the limbs because these are the areas that are exposed to the air. These kids are also highly prone to an exacerbation or increase in signs of eczema, if they are already suffering from the condition.

Another common problem that is seen in people is that there can be asthma that is related to the fur. Just like pollen and other things causing a person to suffer from asthma, the fur from the animals can also lead to the presence of asthma. So, it is important to avoid such animals in a family where a person may be affected with allergies.

Another common health problem is the risk of rabies and other injuries because of the bite of animals. Whatever the intelligence of the pets, they are still animals and they have their animal instincts on high alert at all times. There are some people who let their guard down and are attacked by the pet animals, whose bite can lead to rabies.

Pet animals are the main reason for the presence of fleas in the house. There are many pets that harbor these fleas that are bothersome. There are some people who do not bother with the fleas, if they do not allow the pet inside the house. This is because of the fact that if the pets are not allowed inside the house, there is a very less chance of the place being infested with fleas. There are other places where the person may have to keep the pets inside the house. In these situations, the fleas may have a higher chance of entering the house. The fleas are usually seen in sand and other places outside the house. There are many times when they start entering the house as they are caught on the fur of the animals and then enter the house.

There are some important methods that will help you to keep the fleas out of the house. The first thing that you have to do is to keep the pets out of the house. The pets should have their own area and the garden should be used for their stay. If the pets are allowed to play in the garden and also allowed to enter the house, then there is every chance that you will not be able to keep the fleas out of your house. Even if you are able to remove all the fleas from the house, the pets will bring the fleas in again.

So, what do you do to keep the fleas out of your pets? You have to use a nice medicated shampoo to clean the hair on the pet. There are some people who use the same shampoo for both the cat and the dog in the house. This is a very severe problem. This is mainly because of the fact that the shampoo is usually strong for cats and they may even die. So, different shampoos for dogs and cats need to be used. Remove the pests from the garden by using flea bombs as this will drive them away.

If you are out hiking and looking for an adventure you can always track animals by following scat trails also known as animal poop. Though animals can’t always be seen when walking through the woods, their feces, scat or animal poop will let you know what kinds of animals have been in that area you are in. While you can’t always name the animal when looking at scat, you can tell what the animal has eaten and look for other clues, such as tracks, to make a better judgement call. There are two classifications when it comes to animals; herbivores and carnivores. Herbivores eat plants and carnivores eat meat, often other animals.

The shape and size of scat can often help you determine the difference of a herbivore and carnivore. Herbivores have small, round, cylindrical shaped scat. Rabbits, deer and mice are some of the types of herbivores you may meet in the wild. Rabbits tend to leave a dropping every couple of inches, deer leave a pile or cluster of round scat, and mice have scat that tends to look like slightly bigger pieces of rice. Herbivores leave scat in piles with tapered ends. The best example of this would be to check dog scat.

The color of scat can help determine an animals diet as well. Gray colored stool indicates that there is fur in the diet, ultimately meaning this is a carnivore. Dark colored scat can show both herbivore and carnivore, and shows that something is eating a lot of meat or a lot of vitamin-rich moist plants. That’s why there are several factors to consider when tracking animal scat.

Birds and reptiles have scat combined with urine excrement, making bird and reptile scat easier to identify. Narrowing the species down may be more difficult and many scat trackers, such as scientists, tend to narrow down exact species by measuring the pH in scat.

If you’ve ver been walking in the woods in your back yard or even a state park, chances are you’ve noticed animal tracks or prints pressed into the dirt in certain areas. Identifying prints can be really easy or really difficult, often depending on the species and the type of surface the animal track has be pressed into, but is never the less fun and educational.

The first thing you need to do to begin identifying animals is to pick up a book on the animals that are indigenous or native to the area you will be searching. Try searching a local library or if you are searching in a state park, the animals found in the area will be listed in the welcome or learning center.

When you find a track you can easily narrow down the possible species by just inspecting how many toes are on the print and the size of them. Tracks with four toe prints on the front feet and four on the back feet are either in the dog family or in the cat family. If you see claw marks in the paw mark you can easily rule out something in the cat family because cats retract their claws when walking and running around. Rodents, such as squirrels and mice have four toes on the front feet and five toes on the back feet. The size of the tracks will determine if it’s a mouse or a squirrel. Two toe tracks are from the deer family and include elk and moose, but the later are uncommon in most areas of the United States.

You can also tell what direction the animal was going by looking at an animal tract. Claw marks will point in the direction the animal was traveling; if the animal doesn’t have claws you can tell by the sand or snow pushed back.

Scientists and biologist are able to study migratory patterns and behavior of different species of animals using GPS tracking devices also known as global positioning devices. GPS tracking devices can be used on domestic animals as well as wildlife, but are used mainly in the wild to keep an eye on endangered species or find out different patterns of certain animals. There are several ways to place a GPS tracking device on an animal, and certain devices are specific to certain species of animals depending on the normal habitat and size of the animal.

A collar attachment GPS is placed around the neck or other suitable appendage, such as the leg, of an animal. Animals most commonly used for placing collar attachments are lions or other big cats, primates, and bears.

Harness GPS attachment is used on animals that may not be the best suited for collar attachment. These are mostly used on animals whose head diameter is much, much smaller than the neck area where a collar GPS will likely fall off, causing incorrect collected data. These harness prevent an animal from removing it by wrapping around the animals neck and legs, however; this does not harm the animal in any way.

Direct attachment of a GPS tracking devices is exactly what it says. These devices are directly attached to the animal and specifically used in birds, reptiles, and water animals by attaching the device to tails, ears, or legs. These devices must be light weight and durable, if not it will effect a birds ability to fly or fall off when used with salt water animals due to the corrosive effects of the salt water.

Other mammals such as elephants and rhinoceros may have GPS devices implanted into tusks and horns on the animal. This however is not the best choice, because the bulk and mass of the horns usually affect the GPS signal when tracking the animal long distances.

It is always best to call a wildlife rehabilitation center if you see an animal in need, but sometimes an animal may need to be moved from an area of immediate danger or you may need to act quickly to save an animal. In order to keep an injured animal safe, as well as yourself, there are certain signs or indications to look for when deciding if a wild animal may need your help.

The first sign of an animal needing help is if it can be captured with little effort, especially if it’s an adult. Most animals will not put up a fight if they are in serious pain or have been injured. If the animal is not moving in the middle of the highway and doesn’t move when cars approach, the animal has more than likely been hit and in need of help. Another sign of a distressed animal would be the sign of blood, the animal is favoring a particular body part, or the animal is limping.

Do not remove baby animals from the wild unless you notice they are injured. Most baby animals are left alone while parents go and hunt, this does not mean they have been abandoned, it just means they are waiting for their parents to return.

Do not take wild animals into your home unless you have a permit to do so, this is illegal. Wild animals have both state and federal laws that protect them from becoming residential pets for many reasons, the number one being safety of both the caretaker and the animal. If you must take an injured wild animal home contact a local wildlife center and have someone take the animal to facility where they are better prepared to care for the injured animal. While letting the animal go may be hard, injured animals die more often when not taken care of by professionals in a proper setting.

In some cases when rescuing or assisting an injured animal it may be necessary to take the animal into confinement; keeping the animal out of harms way until a wildlife rehabilitation center can get to where you and the animal are at. It is never recommended to confine a wild animal, but if it’s necessary there are several tips to follow so you do not further injure the animal or yourself. Before picking a wild animal up always place gloves and safety glasses on. Some animals have sharp claw or talons, and birds have beaks that could harm your eyes. Place a towel over the animal’s head to calm the animal before moving it. Place the animal in a box, a dog carrier works best, to transport the animal from point A to point B. If it is a chilly or rainy day a small heating pad will keep the wild animal warm. Constantly holding the animal may put the animal in duress and shock. Place towels over the carrier to keep the animal from seeing what is going on. Place the carrier in a quiet place away from loud noises and other animals. Do not treat any of the animals wounds yourself unless you see that the animal is bleeding. If the animal is bleeding, place light pressure on the area until the wound clots or the bleeding stops. Immediately wash your hands after handling any wild animal. Wild animals carry a number of diseases that can spread to you, your children and even your pets. Never try to completely rehabilitate a wild animal by yourself. Each wild animal has different nutritional needs that only wildlife rehabilitation centers will know how to handle. It is in the best interest of the animal for a professional to properly take care of it (the animal) and release it back into the wild.In some cases when rescuing or assisting an injured animal it may be necessary to take the animal into confinement; keeping the animal out of harms way until a wildlife rehabilitation center can get to where you and the animal are at.

Male turkeys, also known as Toms, begin mating with female turkeys called hens in the early spring time. This is a very loud and proud mating ritual, making it much easier for spring turkey hunters to track down and kill the biggest Tom for their table.

In the spring, male turkeys have an increase in hormone production, letting them know it is time to mate. Mating season for turkeys can be very early in the spring for southern turkeys, and very late in the spring, around May, for turkeys in the north and north-western states. When a Tom turkey hears a distant call of a female ready to breed they will travel long distance, following their hormones, to find the best female hen to mate with.

A male turkey will begin by gobbling, and when a female turkey answers back, they play a game of “Marco Polo,” until the male reaches the female hen. When a Tom turkey sees his female he begins showing off his feathers in order to impress the female. The Tom will begin by fanning out his tail feathers, followed by the ruffling of the feathers on his chest and body. He then begins to strut back and forth. At this point it is the female who makes the decision whether or not she wants to mate with the male turkey. If there are many female hens to choose from the male turkey can strut for several hours until one of the females wish to mate.

If and when a female hen decides to mate with a Tom turkey, she will approach the male, flex her head towards her back and crouch on the ground, signaling to the male that she is ready to mate and produce off-spring with this male. The hen will then leave to find a quiet and suitable place for nesting.

If you live in a rural or wooded area chance are, from time to time, you’ve seen deer in your yard. Deer are more prevalent to coming into residential areas during the winter months when looking for food; especially if you live in an area that sees snow on a regular basis. While it is really neat to see deer in your back yard, it is not in the best interest of the deer to begin artificially feeding them.

Naturally fed deer if not fed on a regular basis can destroy a yard or garden looking for food. If you are going to feed a deer, this is not going to be something to do when you feel like it. Feeding deer can cost hundreds of dollars a year for one deer and when there’s one deer many more will more than likely show up to eat; making the cost of feeding deer cost hundreds more. If are going to feed deer always use food specifically formulated for a deers diet. No table scraps or human food.

When deer congregate in one area to feed without the protection of the woods or wilderness they are especially vulnerable to attack from both domestic and wild dogs, such as wolves. Feeding deer will also attract other rodents like skunks and raccoons that are prone to diseases like rabies that can be transferred to other animals and humans if bitten.

Deer are also prevalent to contracting diseases themselves when congregating and feeding in the same area. The saliva and mucus from a deer infected with tuberculosis or salmonella will be transferred to other deer eating in that area.

If you are wanting to feed deer in your yard or are concerned about deer in your area contact a local wild life agency. A wildlife will answer your questions and concerns pertaining to deer and other wild life in your area.

Deer, as with any wild animal are suceptible to many different diseases. Parasites are the number one cause for sickness and health problems in deer. Deer can contract tape worms, lung worms, and round worms which can cause severe malnutrition and eventually lead to the death of any deer with the parasite if not treated. Three common diseases or illnesses that a deer can contract are brain worms, hemorrhagic diseases, and skin tumors.

Brain worms are round worms that use a deer as a host to complete its life cycle. Round worms are then excreted from the deer in fecal matter. While the round worms are not a threat to the deer, these are a threat to other animals such as moose, elk, and mule deer. The round worms in the fecal matter are transferred to snails and slugs, eaten by other animals and the worms are transferred to another animal when the snails or slugs are eaten.

Hemorrhagic disease is disease that is carried by gnats from one deer to another. hemorrhagic disease also known as “blue-tongue,” is only specific to deer and not found in other animals or humans bitten by the same gnats. Many deer die from this disease, but some do recover. Deer that recover from hemorrhagic disease will build an immunity to the disease at if bitten by an infected gnat again, the disease will not phase them.

Skin tumors on a deer are usually benign and can be located underneath or onto of the skin. The medical term for these skin tumors are fibromas or papilloma and are often non-cancerous. If a deer is shot and these skin tumors are noticed; it doesn’t make the meat inedible. Check the meat thoroughly when processing. If tumors are found on the inside of the deer, such as in the muscle or fatty tissue, this is an indication of cancerous tumors and the deer should not be eaten.

The raccoon is a mammal native to North America and can be seen anywhere, but are more prevalent to areas that are wooded and near any body of water, such as streams, river, lakes and even coastal areas. Raccoons are nocturnal animals, often seen at night, but are not opposed to being out and about during the day. Female raccoons are very friendly with one another, however; males to not socialize with other raccoons until mating season begins in the late winter and early spring.

Raccoons will begin mating from the months of January to March. Male raccoons will choose a female, mate and stay with her for no more than a week, then move on to another female raccoon to spread his seed. Male raccoons never take any part in raising the baby raccoons and are usually long gone by the time the babies are born. Female raccoons give birth to one litter a year ranging from one to eight baby raccoons; also known as kits. Kits are born about six from conception, from the months of April through May. Kits do not leave the nest until they are around two months old and begin to explore their surroundings. Baby raccoons are fully weaned by 18 weeks and begin eating solid food. Female kits tend to stay close to the mother raccoon throughout life and the males move off to find suitable mates.

The average life expectancy for raccoons is five years, however; in captivity some raccoon have lived until the age of 20 years. Many raccoons are killed by hunters and cars every year, but the most common naturally occurring cause of death is with the disease distemper. Distemper will cause respiratory distress as well as seizure in a raccoon; eventually leading to the animals death. If you suspect a raccoon has distemper keep yourself and pets away from the animal as this disease can spread.

Distemper is a virus commonly found in raccoons and is the number one cause of natural death in raccoons. The distemper virus is related to the measles virus that occurs in humans; both adult and children. Raccoons that have distemper are commonly mistaken for having the rabies virus and knowing the difference isn’t possible without blood tests on the animal. The distemper virus spreads fast among animals, so if you notice a raccoon with possible distemper keep your pets as well as your children away.

Respiratory distress symptoms are the first signs that a raccoon or other animal may have distemper. Raccoons will have mucous like discharge coming from their mouth, eyes, and noses; often with a crusted appearance. Some raccoons cough and because of dried mucous, many will have trouble fully opening their eyes.

Distemper also affects the gastrointestinal track of a raccoon or infected animal. Raccoons will vomit and have diarrhea even when they aren’t eating. Because of this raccoons will become dehydrated and lose weighted. This part of the distemper disease process is what causes the next set of symptoms.

The most noticeable symptoms of the distemper virus are the last to set in. Neurological problems will occurs when the disease process is coming to an end and causes the raccoon to come out of hiding and in the middle of the day. Raccoons at this phase of the virus will have seizures that affect the entire body, are more aggressive, and will attack without being provoked or warned that they are there.

Call a local wildlife rehabilitation center if you notice a raccoon that is acting strange. Animal control officers will be sent to your home to capture and remove the animal from the area; especially if it is a residential area with many pets and children so the disease does not spread.

Rabies is a disease, also known as “hydrophobia,” that is fatal to both humans and mammals. The rabies virus is transmitted through bites of an infected animal because the virus lives in the saliva in the mouth of an animal. The rabies virus causes swelling in the brain from attacking the CNS or central nervous system in an animal. The incubation period for the rabies virus can be a couple of days to several months before showing symptoms. During this time the animal may seem to be normal. Once the symptoms start to show in an animal, it is too late to reverse the process of the disease and will eventually kill the animal.

Rabies is most common in raccoons, bats, and skunks. While rabies is mostly heard of being a raccoon virus; bats contribute to spreading rabies to humans in 75 percent of the time. Raccoon rabies started in the southern states of Florida and Georgia in the 1950s. Now over the past couple of decades, raccoon rabies has slowly spread across the United States.

Symptoms of the rabies virus are flu-like symptoms in the animal that include fever and headache. As the disease gets worse, animals begin to lose brain function causing hallucinations and foaming at the mouth. There are two different types of rabies viruses; furious rabies and dumb rabies. Furious rabies has a fast onset, meaning the animal will show symptoms earlier. The symptoms are agitation and aggressiveness, followed by paralysis and death. Dumb rabies has a slower onset of symptoms, but they are just as severe. Dumb rabies symptoms are laziness of the animal, are only partially paralyzed, and may be easier to catch or seem tame.

Always contact a local wildlife department to remove an animal from a residential area if suspect an animal may have rabies. Keep your pets up to date on shots and keep them inside, as well as your children.

Making animal track cast can easily be done with simple materials, allowing scientists or a home owner to track what types of animals are running around in a particular area. Making a cast of an animal track not only gives you evidence of apparent animal activity, but also makes identifying animal tracks easier since making a cast of the track will allow you to see a hard copy of the track for easier identification.

To start the cast of an animal track the first thing you need to do is find a track. Mix plaster of paris with water until it is the consistency of cake batter. Thicker batter will dry to quick causing your animal track to be distorted and not pick up details that will be crucial for animal recognition. Pour the plaster paris mixture into the animal track. Fill the track up to the top of the imprint with a little spilling over the sides. This will make removing the track easier. Casting tracks in dry conditions is difficult and may seep into the ground, and casting in snowy conditions may melt the snow. Wait for the plaster to dry inside of the mold or animal print, this may take up to twenty minutes. Picking up a cast or mold of animal track too early will result in a damaged cast. Remove the plaster cast from the dirt once it has completely hardened. To do this, use a stick to dig a little dirt from around the edges, and gently grasp the lip of the mold. Create as few or as many molds as you like while walking through the woods.

Take you track molds and identify the animal species. While you may be able to identify some without consulting a textbook others, such as Elk, Sheep and Deer look very similar and may need further observation before making a final decision on the species.

Chocolate is harmful to your dogs health and around the holidays, with candy and baking good left out, dogs are more likely to ingest an unhealthy amount. Chocolate poisoning is the most common poisoning that the animal poison control center is called about — and the calls rise around the holiday season. Sign that a dog has eaten too much chocolate are vomiting and diarrhea; along with hyper-activity a restlessness. The hyper-activity is the result of a speeded heart beat. If too much chocolate is ingested and the dog’s heart rate is continually raised that dog has a greater chance of having seizures; causing serious complications and even death in your furry friend.

Semi-sweet chocolate, commonly used in baking, is the most deadly form of chocolate. Baking chocolate is a more pure and concentrated form. The best example of semi-sweet chocolate are chocolate chips used for baking cookies. It only takes four to six ounces of semi-sweet chocolate to kill a dog that is under 15 pounds. That isn’t much. Remember to always keep any kind of chocolate out of your dogs reach. Just because it’s on top of a counter doesn’t mean a bigger dog won’t try to jump up and grab it.

If your dog does accidentally ingest chocolate call a pet poison control hotline or contact your local veterinarian. Be ready to tell your veterinarian or poison control how long it has been since the dog has eaten the chocolate, the type of chocolate he/she ate, the amount and the weight and age of the dog. You will probably be asked make the dog vomit or poison control may tell you to rush to your veterinarians office so that the dog can get proper care and medicine that will reduce the effects of the chocolate in your dogs system.

Just like children, animals need to be protected from certain things around your home and away from home. Some of the things you should keep away from your furry friends may seem obvious, but others are aren’t often thought of. Your pet relies on you to keep them safe from harm and listed below are a few things your pets need to be kept away from.

Power cords and burning candles should always be kept away from your pets. Puppies often chew on power cords, and if they have power running through them at the same time as the puppy chewing them; your puppy can really be hurt or fatal injured. Burning candles can be knocked over by cats that climb onto counter tops. Knocking a candle over can possibly start a fire; making both you and your pet in danger. Chicken bones should always be kept away from dogs and cats. Although most home owners may want to give their pets nice treats, chicken bones can get lodged in their throats, causing your animal to choke. If you must feed your animal chicken, remove the bone first. Keep medicine locked in a cabinet where animals can not get into the bottles. Some medications cause harmful effects on humans and a smaller ingesting such could be fatal.

When your pets are outside or hanging out in a garage keep potentially dangerous items picked up. Antifreeze can kill a dog in a couple of hours and rat poison, if enough is ingested, can do the same thing. Keep your animals away from certain plants. Azaeleas and Poinsettias are very poisonous to animals if ingested.

Contact your pets veterinarian if they have eaten something you are not sure of. Veterinarians will answer any questions you have and if there is anything wrong you can bring your pet in for further observation and treatment.

Pets are taken to veterinarians office all the time for surgery; some good and bad. Most surgeries are for the spay or neutering of an animal and are considered elective. Many worry about their animals when going under the knife, but unless your animal is going into surgery unhealthy there is no need to worry. Veterinarians are professionals that are specifically trained to work with your animals; just as a physician would take care of you.

Before your animal goes into surgery your vet will probably recommend that you don’t give your pet any food or water several hours before surgery. The sleeping medication, also known as anesthesia, can cause nausea and vomiting. If a dog vomits in his sleep vomit can enter the lungs and cause serious complications such as pneumonia. If your pet has eaten just before the surgery it will more than likely be postponed.

Before your animal is put to sleep he/she will be weighed and hooked up to several machines that will check your pets heart rate and blood pressure during surgery. Pre-anesthetics will be given to put your animal to sleep and dull any pain he could feel during surgery and will be hooked up to an I.V. Any medicine given to your animal during surgery is pre-calculated based on the weight of your animal. Too much can be fatal and not enough will cause your pet to be in pain.

After the surgery your pet will recover in a private area for twenty to thirty minutes if all goes well. With full recovery expected within the next couple of hours. Your veterinarian will give you specific instructions to follow when you are able to take your animal home. These instructions include: administering pain medications if needed, when to allow them to eat, and sign to look for if somethings wrong.

Your pets can put themselves into a number of sticky situations that can possibly lead to injuries. When a pet is injured proper first aid techniques need to be used to comfort the animal and potentially save your animal’s life. Injuries that may need first aid are scrapes and cuts, poison ingestion, and extreme exposure of the elements, such as heat and cold. You should always contact a veterinarian when your pet is injured, but in the event one can’t be reached, here are some tips of what is and isn’t needed when administering first aid to a pet. Always apply a towel or rag over the pets eyes to calm him/her. Animals can become agitated when injured and can bite without warning.

To slow the bleeding of an injured pet place a clean rag or gauze on top of it. Secure the towel or gauze with tape around the injured animals leg or body. If you notice swelling this may mean that the bandage needs to be loosened or their is a broken bone. Be very gentle if you need to remove the bandage. You don’t want to put your pet under more stress or pain.

Broken bones and fractures can be noticed with little effort. An animal will tend to favor one side and the broken limb will hang oddly. Do not place a splint on the broken extremity, instead, transport your animal to the veterinarians office immediately.

An animal will go into shock if an injury is severe or has lost a lot of blood. Signs of shock include pale gums and shallow and rapid breathing. Keep the animal as warm as possible. Use a heating pad or quickly warm some towels in the dryer and immediately take your pet to the nearest veterinarian clinic and try to stay as calm as possible.

Dogs, especially young puppies, tend to chew and eat very unusual items indoors and outdoors. There are two specific eating habits that dogs tend to experience at on time or another; pica and coporphagy. No one really knows exactly why dogs tend to eat odd things, but there are speculations that it could be because of vitamin and nutrient deficiencies in your pets diet. Pica is the term used when dogs are eating non-food objects, such as toilet paper, grass and other non food items. One form of pica in particular coprophagy or when your dog eats his feces or the feces of another animal. This is gross. Many veterinarians and scientist have tried to figure out what causes coporphagy, but no one knows what causes an animal to eat fecal matter; although many scientist seem to think it has something to do with attention or a vitamin defficiency your pooch may be lacking. There may be some ways to keep your dog from eating poop, but it won’t be easy. If you have a cat, keep the litter box cleaned as often as possible and pick up any dog poop that may be lying around the yard. If you have a baby gate, you can place this near the litter box. A furry feline can jump over the gate, but dogs aren’t able to jump as high as cats do. If you don’t have time to pick up your dog’s poopie everyday, when you walk your dog you can put something on the poop to keep them from eating it. Many people have had success placing cayenne pepper on their dog’s poop. When the dogs come back in the yard and smell the fecal matter the cayenne pepper will keep them from eating it because of the spicy smell. If you are concerned about your dog eating poop, contact a local veterinarian to discuss the problem.

If you want to learn how to track animals you have to know where to look. The first thing you need to know about tracking wildlife is learning how to “sign track”. These type of signs are ways to know that any animal may be in the area based on things other than tracks, such as landscape, animal travel routes and where an animal sleeps, also known as bedding.
You need to know the landscape that certain animals frequent to begin tracking. When you are landscape tracking is to look for things that herbivores or plant-eating animals need. You want to find an area with different types of vegetation for more than one species of herbivore. Look for water and rocks as well. The water will keep the animals hydrated and the rocks will give them a safe hiding place.
Travel routes and roadways are the next thing to look for when tracking wildlife. Keep an eye out for trails, runs and escape routes. Trails can be any size, as many animals will use them. This will be a cleared path with battered down vegetation. Runs are very location specific only going to a watering area, sleeping areas and areas for food. These runs aren’t just used to roam.

Animal sleeping areas are the last thing to look for. Bedding areas differ from species, but will more than likely be found in thick brush to hear a predator coming.

Recognizing medium scale signs is the next step to tracking wild animals after you master locating the large-scale track signs. There are several important medium scale signs to look for; each one important in its own way for locating animals in the wild.
Rub spots are areas of landscape that animals rub up against and leave their mark. These rub spots can be unintentional; a branch that an animal rubs up against on as he is passing through a trail or run and intentional rubs which is a specific area that an animal rubs himself.
Hair and feathers are another sign. These are found in rub spots where fur and feathers get snagged on branches and rocks. If you find a big pile of fur or feathers this may have been a kill area for a carnivore.
Look for gnawing and chew marks. If a chew mark is at a 45 degree angle it is a rodent animal. If the chew marks have a serrated edge this is from deer. If the grass or branch you are looking at is a clean break, this is not where an animal has gnawed or chewed, this is caused by animal movement.
Animal scratching are made on a variety of things found around the forest and can be both unintentional and intentional. Intentional scratching is when an animal is picking the ground for bugs. Unintentional scratching will be from and animal walking or running.
Pay attention to all of these medium scale signs when tracking animals. One may look insignificant but when paired when noticed with another sign in the same area you may be in the middle of a wonderful place to track animals and possibly even see some if you are careful and quiet. Just keep practicing with the track signs until you get it right.

If you enjoy tracking wild animals or are looking to pick up a new hobby there a few materials that are excellent companions for you when you go on your trip. This list only contains five different things you can take with you, but you can take more or less.
A field guide is something needed for beginners. A field guide is a book that is a walk-through of what to look for when walking through trails in the woods. You can also jot down your own notes from reading about tracking, laminate them and take them with you on your next trip out for a walk in the woods.
A flashlight is useful for a number of things, even in the day light. Flashlights are useful to light up tracks, see in dark places and navigate your way around dark paths. Flashlights are great to have when looking at tracks. You can light up the track making it easier to see pressure points and tell which way an animal is going.
Plaster is useful if you want to make molds of any wild animal tracks you find on your journey. These aren’t hard to make and casts of tracks can be made in several minutes while you walk around and look for more.
Cameras are useful for a number of things as well. You can take photos of wildlife as well as any tracks you may find along your way.
Take a journal with you on your trip into the unknown woods and write anything and everything you see. You can write descriptions of flowers and trees and research which animals frequent these areas and compare the findings of the notes with the tracks and tracking signals you located when walking around the area of the flowers and trees.
